Workshop On Encouraging Reading In Early Childhood At Sneh International School

Parents and teachers of SNEH International School attended a workshop and a demonstration on “combatting the screen and encouraging reading in early childhood”. The workshop conducted by experts was very informative, interactive and interesting too.

It was pointed out that reading of books unleashes the imagination of the child and rightly stimulates the mind in the formative years. This is a scientifically proven fact. “Children are hungry for knowledge” said the expert. The adults around them may neither have the quality time nor the knowledge to satisfy this hunger fully. This leads to many unanswered questions and gradually the lack of stimulation affects the development of their early intelligence. To be able to have all the answers to the innumerable queries, a child must be guided to the treasure trove of books. School does this and so must the parents as a child spends more time at home.

Workshop On Encouraging Reading In Early Childhood At Sneh International School

The Principal, Mrs. Ritu Gupta asked the parents to indulge the child with books just like toys and other presents and to read the books in an enjoyable manner as a family activity rather than merely watching T.V.

This was followed by a demonstration of how story reading can be made more interesting.

In India, parents have little support and so far parenting has been given little thought or training. This workshop was an eye opener for the parents. Mrs. Mathur, mother of a student remarked that the session had answered many of her questions and her perplexing task of parenting had now acquired a focus. Parents of
SNEH International School were thankful for having the wonderful opportunity of learning to be better parents.
